transfers
Polaroid transfer is an alternative photographic process using Polaroid film, a slide printer, and
various receptor surfaces. A slide is placed in the printer and projected onto a piece of Polaroid
film, which is prematurely peeled apart. The negative is then pressed onto another surface,
taking on the characteristics of the receptor. The image can then be hand colored with inks,
paints, colored pencils, or pastels. Each image is totally one-of-a-kind due to the unique nature
of Polaroid transfers. The effect is painterly, dreamy, and just a little bit removed from reality.
Additional transfers were done using solvents (alcohol, xylene, and acetone,
among others) on various surfaces including: paint chips, vellum, Plexiglas,
metal, and papers made from vegetable fiber.
